About the exhibit:

Without Looking Before Or Behind

an exhibition by
Arielle Bivas - Godfrey DiGiorgi - Vered Shomron

Three artists with camera, pencil and brush dig into hearts and histories to examine moments ... welcome to Without Looking Before Or Behind, a multi-faceted exhibit by three emerging artists.

Opening Friday, June 30, 2006, and on display until Monday, July 3, 2006 at the Pacific Art League Main Gallery in Palo Alto, California, the exhibit includes large format color silver-gelatin prints by Arielle Bivas, digitally rendered black & white pigment prints by Godfrey DiGiorgi, and pencil & paint works by Vered Shomron. A reception will be held Friday, June 30, 2006, from 6 to 9 pm. A panel discussion with the artists will be held during the reception from 7:30 to 8:30 pm.

Arielle Bivas creates high-color photographs using a large format view camera. Her series Fluid explores substitutions for the body, simultaneously hiding and revealing, inviting and repelling. It presents a fully physical intimacy through the eyes which allows the viewer to swim in a familiar but unidentifiable world of flesh.

Godfrey DiGiorgi works in black and white using a hand held camera. His Subjects in Motion takes the viewer on a foray into Motion, expanding the vision of a moment to contrast the quick and the static. It poses a frieze of captured time to reveal the fleeting.

"A Tattoo in my soul," is how Vered Shomron describes the Star of David - the Jewish, Israeli, Zionist and Holocaust symbol adapted from ancient India - which she draws and paints in an intense search for understanding and acceptance of her complex identities.
